Peds Club Members Renovate Primary School Playground in Dominica

August 29, 2013

Thirty-two members of the Ross University School of Medicine Pediatric Student Association (Peds Club) volunteered recently to renovate the Paix Bouche Primary School playground in Dominica. “After participating in a health fair in the Paix Bouche community it was apparent that the school playground was in disrepair,” said the club’s Health Project Coordinator Gary King, fourth semester student at the time. “The principal of the school made a request for any help the club could offer, and the students of Ross University responded to the call.”

The improvements that the team made included replacing the wood flooring in the playhouse,
resurfacing a concrete walkway, painting the playhouse, swings sets, teeter-totter, walls, and other playground equipment, and more.

A Peds Club fundraiser helped to raise the money to buy supplies, and power tools were borrowed. “Alexis George, from Alexis Taxi donated not only transportation to and from the work site, but he also gave his hand as well to painting swing sets,” King said. The teachers and principal of the school provided refreshments. It was truly a community event.
