03/31/09

March 30, 2009—(North Brunswick, NJ)—Ross University School of Medicine is pleased to announce that it has entered into a new affiliation agreement with the Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport, Grand Bahama, which establishes Rand as the official affiliated teaching hospital of Ross University School of Medicine’s’ clinical education center in Freeport. All clinical activities completed by students will be performed under the supervision of physician faculty and other licensed and practicing physicians in The Bahamas.

The agreement will become effective in May 2009.

The 68-bed Rand Memorial Hospital was originally opened in 1969 as a private facility known as the Grand Bahama Clinic. This facility became a public hospital in 1971 and is now the primary healthcare center for the Freeport area. The Rand Memorial Hospital provides general acute care as well as full-time services in selected specialties including obstetrics and gynecology, nephrology, internal medicine, general surgery, anesthesiology, pediatrics, psychiatry, emergency medicine, pathology, radiology, dentistry, and ophthalmology. Visiting specialists provide services in urology, infectious diseases, ear/nose and throat, orthopedics, and oncology.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Rand Memorial Hospital,” said Dr. Nancy Perri, vice president for academic affairs at Ross University. “This new affiliation will give Ross students the opportunity to take part in clinical activities with patients at the Rand Hospital and at a number of community clinics in Freeport.”
