Ross Med
Ross Med offers several pathways for applicants to transfer into our MD degree program. We accept transfers from diverse educational backgrounds into our medical sciences and clinical sciences curriculums.
Each transfer application is reviewed to determine acceptance, transfer course credit recognition and where in the program a transfer can begin with Ross Med. For more details on transfer opportunities reach out to our admissions advisors, they will help guide you through your individual pathway.
Transferring Into Medical Sciences
The medical sciences curriculum at Ross Med is designed to allow students to address the processes of health and disease holistically. It includes clinical skills training, standardized patient cases, and small group learning activities.
Students enrolled in a preclinical program at another medical school who wish to transfer to Ross Med may be considered for admission by submitting all required documentation.
We know that each transfer applicant is unique. We encourage you to contact the Office of Admissions at Admissions@rossu.edu or call 1-732-509-3041 to discuss your medical school situation and begin the process.
To transfer into Ross Med’s Doctor of Medicine degree program, you will need to meet all general admissions requirements.
- A completed Ross Med application.
- Official transcript(s) from each college and/or professional school attended.
- A minimum of three (3) official letters of recommendation. All letters must be on appropriate letterhead with contact information included and sent directly from the recommending party to the Ross Med Admissions Office. Please note letters of recommendation are confidential and become the property of Ross University School of Medicine:
- One academic letter from a pre-medical professor acquainted with the applicant’s academic ability or a recommendation from a college pre-health advisory committee.
- A second academic letter or reference from a physician acquainted with the applicant’s healthcare work experience, if applicable. The second letter may also be a character reference from an employer or volunteer activity.
- A Dean’s Letter from the medical school attended.
- Medical College Admission Test® (MCAT®) scores
- Personal Statement specifically addressing why you are interested in transferring to Ross Med
- CV/Resume (highly recommended) detailing clinical and medical-related experiences
Note: Students who transfer medical schools cannot be given credit for incomplete or failed courses (including courses with a “D” grade) or courses taken more than four years before the time the applicant is accepted for enrollment.
If accepted, your official transcripts are reviewed by the Associate Dean of Academics and Registrar to determine if advanced standing can be awarded. Medical school transfer students considered for admission past the first semester will be determined by the review of the transcripts, courses already taken, and the quality of the program attended.

Clinical Transfer Pathways
Allopathic Medical Sciences Completion
Students who have completed an allopathic preclinical curriculum are considered for admission. For more details on transferring from a DO institution to our MD program, reach out to our admissions advisors, they can assist with any of your questions and guide you through the application process.
With a USLME® Step Score
Student transfers with a current United States Medical Licensing Exam® (USMLE®) Step score will be reviewed for admission by the Ross Med Admissions committee. If you are admitted into the program, you must register for and successfully complete the next available 4-week Hospital Medicine clinical clerkship offered at Cleveland Clinic Florida before you will be placed in Ross Med’s Core Clerkships clinical program.
Without a USMLE® Step Score
After your transfer application is reviewed by the Admissions Committee, Ross Med will determine your place in our curriculum as you prepare and sit for the USMLE Step 1 exam, a requirement to register for any clinical courses. Once you have passed the exam, you must successfully complete the 4‒week Hospital Medicine elective offered at Cleveland Clinic Florida. You will then be placed in Ross Med’s Core Clerkships clinical program.
Medical School Transfer FAQs

Undergraduate cumulative grade point average (CGPA) and your GPA in required premedical course work (PGPA) are reviewed, along with your medical school coursework. Ross Med believes in a holistic admissions process and while your GPA is considered other factors including your potential, character, and drive to become a physician will be reviewed.
