Psychiatry Resident

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CHOOSE A CAREER IN MEDICINE?
Though I have many influences and experiences, the seed was planted when I as a young boy and needed to see an ophthalmologist. My doctor, who also cared for my Grandmother and knew my family, took the time to assuage my concerns and provided excellent care. He indulged every question and curiosity presented by a precious eight (8) year-old. I will always be grateful for his time and mentoring that inspired me from a young age to pursue medicine.

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING SINCE GRADUATING FROM RUSM?
After graduating Ross, I began my residency in Psychiatry at Loyola University Medical Center. I can honestly say that RUSM prepared me for my future by providing excellent and diverse clinical opportunities, solid support, and the freedom to explore my interests.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT THE FIELD OF PSYCHIATRY?
My work in the field of psychiatry reaches patients from all walks of life, from all corners of the world, and from every discipline of medicine. My work reaches the patients and their families, and I have an opportunity to treat both. In addition to my work with the general population and the under-served at public hospitals, I have also provided care to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces as part of the Mental Health Service Line at the Veteran's Affairs Hospital. To be able to care for our veterans has been an honor and an unexpected reward.

HOW HAS RUSM HELPED YOU TRANSFORM YOUR PASSION INTO PURPOSE?
RUSM has provided an avenue for me to channel my raw passion into a focused mission. I learned the foundations of medicine, and I learned how to focus and direct my goals. RUSM provided me with an opportunity for me to live my dream and any chance I get, I participate in the ROSS Experiences with the hope of inspiring someone else to do the same.

CAAM-HP badge

Ross University School of Medicine is accredited by the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP, www.caam-hp.org).

CAAM-HP is the legally constituted body established in 2003 under the aegis of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), empowered to determine and prescribe standards and to accredit programs of medical, dental, veterinary and other health professions education on behalf of the contracting parties in CARICOM.

Accreditation by CAAM-HP is a rigorous, peer review process which examines all aspects of a medical program. The CAAM-HP board, an independent and autonomous body of professionals, only certifies medical schools which are operating at the highest levels of industry standards.

Through this accreditation, the CAAM-HP provides assurance to medical students, graduates, the medical profession, healthcare institutions, and the public that programs leading to qualifications in medicine meet appropriate national and international standards for educational quality, and that the graduates have a sufficiently complete and valid educational experience.
