Laura Welke, PhD

Assistant Dean, Faculty Affairs and Development and Professor, Anatomy and Neurobiology

Laura Welke, PhD, completed her doctoral work in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at Boston University School of Medicine. During her tenure Dr. Welke worked in the Laboratory for Cognitive Neurobiology and had the unique opportunity to be trained in primate neurosurgery and behavior under a few of the leading experts in temporal lobe anatomy. Dr. Welke's dissertation focused on the functional interactions of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and the medial temporal lobe system. Along with her research, Dr. Welke taught in the Medical Gross Anatomy, Histology, and Neuroscience courses at Boston University School of Medicine. She was also highly involved in the community lecturing to rehabilitation medical residents, undergraduate, and eastern medicine students. Following the completion of her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Anatomy and Neurobiology, Dr. Welke held a faculty appointment in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at SUNY Downstate Medical School in Brooklyn, New York. She served as the Vice Chair for the Department of Anatomy at Ross University School of Medicine from 2011-2015, was the Neuroscience course director from 2009-2010, and was the Module Director for the Nervous and Psychiatric I module from 2011-2012 and 2014-2015. Dr. Welke also held the role of Faculty Recruiter from 2007-2012 and was the talent acquisition liaison for Ross University School of Medicine from 2012-2015. She now serves as the Assistant Dean for Faculty Affairs and Development.
