Marc Bergeron, PhD

Biography
Dr. Marc Bergeron first obtained B.Sc. degrees in Microbiology and Biology from Université Laval, Canada, followed by a M.Sc. degree in Environmental Sciences from Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, Canada, studying the evolutionary ecology of fish parasite assemblages. Following an invertebrate pathology internship at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France, Dr. Bergeron returned to Université Laval where he obtained a Ph.D. degree in Microbiology/Immunology, working on murine immune responses to Trypanosoma cruzi, the aetiological agent of Chagas Disease. Prior to being hired by Ross University School of Medicine in 2008, Dr. Bergeron pursued a post-doctoral fellowship with Michel J. Tremblay at the Laboratory of Human Immuno-Retrovirology, where he studied HIV-1/T. cruzi co-infection in human primary blood-derived macrophages and dendritic cells. Since being employed by Ross University School of Medicine, Dr. Bergeron has been active in research, collaborating on OneHealth initiatives such as the Caribbean EcoHealth Programme (Teasdale-Corti Global Health Research Partnership Program/International Development Research Centre, Canada), and working on dengue virus and Zika virus epidemiology and pathogenesis. Dr. Bergeron teaches Immunology and Virology at Ross University School of Medicine.
