Dr. Rakesh Calton completed his MBBS and subsequent post-graduate residency training (MD) from Christian Medical College, India. Dr. Calton is ECFMG certified and has more than 25 years of teaching, clinical research and administrative experience. Besides being a clinician and a medical teacher, Dr. Calton is also an accomplished Healthcare Executive, with an MBA in operations, a Master’s degree in Hospital and Health Systems Management and a Master’s degree in Health Management. Dr. Calton is board certified as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and a Certified Health Executive of the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL). Dr. Calton has led many healthcare organizations and medical schools at a senior executive level. Prior to immigrating to Canada, Dr. Calton was the administrator of a large tertiary level teaching hospital. He was also the Executive Director of a large multi-specialty hospital in South India. Prior to joining RUSM, Dr. Calton was associated with Saba University School of Medicine and the Aureus University School of Medicine, Aruba, for more than 6 years. Dr. Calton is passionate about teaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer and has supervised various projects, thesis and academic papers. Dr. Calton is a champion of quality and is passionate about quality in healthcare, accreditation, Six Sigma and Lean. Dr. Calton is an active member and volunteer of various professional bodies such as the American Society of Quality, The American College of Healthcare Executives and the Canadian College of Healthcare Leaders. Dr. Calton is a Cricket and sports enthusiast who spends his spare time watching sports, listening to music and travelling around the world.
