Velma Rawlins, MD

Biography
Velma Rawlins, MD, MS, is an Associate Professor of Medical Education with extensive knowledge and experience in supporting medical students across both Medical Sciences and Clinical Sciences. With a primary focus in academic support, her mission is to help medical students realize their full potential.
Dr. Rawlins graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Alabama State University before going on to complete a Master of Science degree with a research focus in sensory physiology, specifically in Olfaction. She then returned to her home country of St Kitts & Nevis and enrolled in Windsor University School of Medicine. Upon graduating, she obtained her Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification before embarking on a career in medical education at Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) in 2014.
As the co-director of the Clinical Academy for Teaching and Learning at RUSM, Dr. Rawlins is based in Miramar and leads a team of academic advisors and TAs dedicated to delivering programs and resources for USMLE® Step 1 and Step 2 preparation. Her direct contributions have resulted in a 12% improvement in the Step 1 pass rate over six months.
In March 2023, Dr. Rawlins was recognized in RUSM’s The Pulse for achieving a 100% attestation rate for clinical skills assessment, affording hundreds of students the opportunity to participate in NRMP’s 2023 residency match. This achievement ultimately contributed to a 97% first-time match rate.
