WHY CHOOSE RUSM UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE?
HOW TO PICK THE RIGHT MEDICAL SCHOOL
As a doctor, you’ll face many tough decisions over the course of your career. One of the most difficult choices may come at the very beginning: which medical school should you choose?
HOW TO DECIDE ON A MEDICAL SCHOOL
Evaluating how to choose a medical school is a challenge. If you’re overwhelmed by all the options, you’re not alone. The good news is narrowing down your choices may be easier than you might think. It may come down to which school provides you with the best combination of hands-on, immersive learning experiences and focused academic support.
For many prospective Doctor of Medicine (MD) students, the clear choice may be Ross University School of Medicine (Ross Med). How do you decide what to look for in medical schools and determine which school is right for you? If you’re wondering how to decide which medical schools to apply to, consider the following list of RUSM strongpoints.
HOW TO CHOOSE A MEDICAL SCHOOL — WHY ROSS MED IS THE RIGHT CHOICE
1. OUR ALUMNI NETWORK IS 15,000+ STRONG
As one of the largest providers of doctors to the United States healthcare system, Ross Med graduates are practicing in all 50 United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
2. WE ARE COMMITTED TO PHYSICIAN DIVERSITY
The 2020 U.S. Census shows that African Americans and Latinx account for more than 31 percent of the U.S. population, but they made up just 13 percent of U.S. medical school graduates in 2020-2021, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Our goal at Ross Med is to improve these numbers by making it possible for students from diverse backgrounds to complete their medical education.
Ross Med’s commitment to creating broader access and addressing physician diversity includes partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) across the country through our Access and Inclusion in Medicine (AIM) Scholar Program. AIM helps create new pathways for underrepresented minority students to attend medical school.
3. WE OFFER FLEXIBLE START DATES: SEPTEMBER, JANUARY, OR MAY
We’re ready when you are. Ross Med offers three session start dates to allow you to start your MD degree program when it’s convenient for you and your personal journey. Session starts are available in September, January and May. Contact our admission advisors to learn more.
4. OUR USMLE STEP 1 PASS RATE
In 2020, 90.9 percent of Ross Med students passed Step 1 of the United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®) on the first attempt. Starting with your first day at med school, Ross Med gives you the hands-on training and personalized instruction you need to prepare for your exams.
5. OUR FIRST-TIME RESIDENCY RATE
Results show yet another strong year for Ross Med with a 97% first-time residency attainment rate thus far, for 2022-2023 graduates.* 592 Ross Med students and graduates will enter residency programs in 25 specialties throughout 41 U.S. states and territories. Notable specialties include Dermatology, Orthopedic Surgery, Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Interventional Radiology, Radiation Oncology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Neurology. Over half of our future residents will enter a primary care specialty.** See details in our residency records.
*First-time residency attainment rate is the percent of students attaining a 2023-24 residency position out of all graduates or expected graduates in 2022-23 who were active applicants in the 2023 NRMP match or who attained a residency position outside the NRMP match.
**Primary Care: family medicine; family medicine-preventive medicine; internal medicine; medicine-primary; medicine-pediatrics; pediatrics; pediatrics-primary
6. EVERY CLINICAL STUDENT HAS ACCESS TO A DEDICATED TEAM OF ADVISORS
We think clinicals are too important to your development as a physician for you to go it alone. A support hub of advisors can assist you with everything from clinical questions to financial aid inquiries. This level of support is the Ross Med difference, providing an advantage to students during their medical education that guides our students to professional success.
7. OUR CLINICAL PROGRAM COVERS A RANGE OF PATIENT POPULATIONS AND HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS
Clinical experiences can be completed at 28 affiliated teaching hospitals across the United States. All core rotations can be done in a single location.
Because we have so many affiliations, our students are able to complete all their rotations in the same location. This provides such advantages as fewer personal costs and more time to build professional relationships. Most importantly, it gives students a consistent clinical environment as they rotate through different disciplines.
8. OUR STUDENTS SHARE OUR DEDICATION TO MAKE MEDICINE ACCESSIBLE
Many Ross Med students complete their residencies in primary care (such as family or internal medicine), and many of those choose to practice in areas with healthcare shortages. This allows Ross Med graduates to connect with patient populations in most need of care and make an impact on the communities they serve.
9. WE ARE TITLE IV ELIGIBLE
The Office of Student Finance at Ross Med is committed to helping eligible students find financial aid, including student loan programs and scholarships*. RUSM is also U.S. Title IV Funding eligible.
*Available to those who apply and qualify.
