As you prepare for your first semester at RUSM, I am excited to share an update on our January 2021 term. After three semesters of fully-remote learning, we are ready to reopen our Barbados campus and will begin a gradual return to in-person learning.
We strongly believe that in-person learning provides the most comprehensive medical education experience—that's why we worked so hard to reopen our campus. We also understand that these are unprecedented times and some students will not be able or desire to be in Barbados. RUSM will therefore continue to offer the option to complete your first semester online from home.
For those able to be in Barbados, RUSM has been working hard to design a safe environment for our rigorous academic program. We are pleased to be able to offer some in- person academic experiences and support in tandem with virtual activities and learning. And with our campus reopening, you will have access to our state-of-the-art campus and residential housing, which will operate with new safety protocols and modified conditions.
Expanded Campus Access
We expect the majority of campus facilities and services to be operational in time for the January 2021 semester start, including:
Campus study spaces for independent and small group study
Anatomy labs for self-study and review
Clinical skills labs for supervised practice
Classroom spaces for taking select exams
IT and student services
We have redesigned these spaces to adhere to CDC-recommended safety protocols. Common areas have been outfitted with physical barriers and hand sanitizing stations, and signage is posted throughout campus to promote social and physical distancing. We will also enforce new safety measures and protocols, including the required use of facemasks, temperature checks, and increased cleaning procedures.
We are excited to welcome you to Barbados but ask that you DO NOT book travel at this time. We are partnering with the Barbados government on a specific plan for RUSM students that ensures a smooth and safe return that adheres to various international entry requirements, including mandated quarantine procedures.
