JANUARY 2021 SEMESTER PLANS FOR RISING 3X/04 STUDENTS
We have been working hard to design a 3X/04 semester that will give you that hands-on clinical training in tandem with virtual large group activities and in-person academic mentorship. This model will support your successful progression into clinical sciences within a safe and controlled environment.
Students advancing to 3X/04 next semester should plan to be in Barbados for the January 2021 term. However, please DO NOT book travel at this time. We are partnering with the Barbados government on a specific plan for RUSM students regarding your arrival and various international entry requirements, including mandated quarantine procedures. We want to facilitate a smooth and safe transition and plan to have all RUSM students quarantine at Coverley where we can ensure proper social and physical distancing.
We understand that these are unprecedented times and that some students will have a circumstance or condition that prevents their return to Barbados. In a future update, we will outline a process to inform us of any concerns and discuss the best way to proceed for the semester.
Expanded Campus Access
RUSM is working to safely reopen the majority of campus facilities and services to enhance your semester experience. We expect the following to be operational in time for the January 2021 semester:
Campus study spaces for independent and small group study
Clinical skills labs for supervised practice
Classroom spaces for taking select remotely proctored exams
IT and student services
We have redesigned these spaces to adhere to CDC-recommended safety protocols. Common areas have been outfitted with physical barriers and hand sanitizing stations, and signage is posted throughout campus to promote social and physical distancing. We will also enforce new safety measures and protocols, including the required use of facemasks, temperature checks, and increased cleaning procedures.
RUSM's university housing at Coverley Village will also be available for the January 2021 semester with comprehensive safety protocols in place. We have reserved enough units to house all 3X/04 students and will soon provide instructions on how to confirm your unit.
We look forward to welcoming you to Barbados in 2021. We will share important updates and action items over the coming days and weeks to prepare you for the January semester start. And, as I mentioned earlier, I will hold a Town Hall on Monday, October 19 to review our plans in greater detail. I welcome your questions and comments in advance of that meeting, which you can submit through this anonymous form.
