JANUARY 2021 SEMESTER PLANS FOR RISING 2/03 AND 4X/05 STUDENTS
RUSM has been working hard to design a safe environment for our rigorous academic program. We are pleased to be able to offer hands-on small group sessions and clinical skills practice in tandem with virtual large group activities. Your medical education will be further enhanced with access to our state-of-the-art campus and residential housing, which will operate under modified conditions, consistent with CDC guidelines.
Expanded Campus Access
We expect the majority of campus facilities and services to be operational in time for the January 2021 semester start, including:
Campus study spaces for independent and small group study
Anatomy labs for self-study and review
Clinical skills labs for supervised practice
Classroom spaces for taking select remotely proctored exams
IT and student services
We have redesigned these spaces to adhere to CDC-recommended safety protocols. Common areas have been outfitted with physical barriers and hand sanitizing stations, and signage is posted throughout campus to promote social and physical distancing. We will also
enforce new safety measures and protocols, including the required use of facemasks, temperature checks, and increased cleaning procedures.
RUSM's university housing at Coverley Village will also be available for the January 2021 semester. We are committed to providing a safe and supportive living environment and have developed comprehensive protocols in conjunction with public health guidelines to mitigate students' risk of exposure.
Students interested in university housing will have the opportunity to request space soon. Please monitor your email for an update from RUSM Housing.
We are excited to welcome you to Barbados but ask that you DO NOT book travel at this time. We are partnering with the Barbados government on a specific plan for RUSM students regarding your arrival and various international entry requirements, including mandated quarantine procedures. We want to facilitate a smooth and safe transition and plan to have all RUSM students quarantine at Coverley where we can ensure proper social and physical distancing.
While all students are encouraged back for the January 2021 semester, we are prioritizing the return of certain semester cohorts based on both the content of their curricula and the feasibility of virtual delivery. This includes your peers who will be entering semester 1 and 3X/04 in January 2021. We also understand that these are unprecedented times and some students have circumstances that prevent their return. We will continue to offer the option to complete your January 2021 semester remotely from home.
Finally, as each of you knows, the global pandemic has evolved continually over the last 8 months and will continue to do so. We will regularly assess conditions both locally and globally and will keep the RUSM community apprised of any changes or updates.
You will receive additional details about travel and housing soon, and we will be reaching out for an update on your plans for the semester. I also invite you to join me for a Town Hall on Monday, October 19 to hear more about our return to campus. I welcome your questions and comments in advance of that meeting. Until then, stay safe, dust off your passport, and get ready for Barbados in January!
