Ross University School of Medicine(RUSM) strives to meet the needs of their medical students throughout their time with the university. Student support at RUSM includes numerous resources to help students with course guidance, career support, and personal needs.

As you prepare to start your medical school journey, it is important to know what student support services are available to you. Keep reading to see how RUSM student support services can be available to help you.

Resources For Medical Student Support at RUSM

Student Support Teams

RUSM student support services begin with the faculty and staff of the university. Medical school is challenging, and students require support from each other, as well as employees of the university, in order to navigate the intense journey that medical school provides. All students are included in a network of academic advisors who can help them prepare for current course situations, as well as the future. These advisors and advising teams are fully dedicated to the success of their students.

Academic Resources

In addition to having access to top advising teams at the university, RUSM student support services gives students access to numerous other resources that can improve their studies.

The Academy for Teaching and Learning (ATL) is a helpful resource that is committed to helping students achieve academic success. Through this program, students receive individualized support to achieve their educational and career goals. The ATL provides this support through three connected areas: Student-Centered Programs, Faculty Development, and Medical Education Research and Scholarship.

The collaborative efforts of all those involved in the RUSM student academic resources create a favorable and supportive learning environment. Additional academic resources that are offered to RUSM students include:

  • Individual academic advising
  • Student ambassadors
  • Career and personal counseling
  • Special accommodations for disabilities
  • United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®) Step examination preparation
  • Skill enhancement practice opportunities
  • Professional residency application writer

Early Specialty Courses and Support

RUSM student support services provides two critical course opportunities designed to help students become acclimated to medical school prior to beginning the course curriculum:

  • Medical Education Readiness Program (MERP)
  • Pre-Matriculation Course

The MERP is a 15-week program used to help prepare students for medical school prior to beginning. MERP is offered to students who have not been offered direct admission to RUSM.

The Pre-Matriculation course is a complimentary online course designed to help prepare students for the curriculum they will encounter at RUSM.

Wellness Resources

The student services at RUSM not only focus on the curriculum and career aspects of medical school; they also focus on the health of their students. Students can seek resources in mentoring, wellness and counseling, mental and physical health, student finance, and organizations on campus.

RUSM’s Wellness and Counseling Center provides complimentary, confidential services by highly trained and licensed providers. If more support is needed, the RUSM CARE team provides support to students at increased academic or emotional risk.

Online, you can also access updated blogs that navigate important situations you are likely to encounter or have questions about during your time in medical school. Give yourself some time to look through our online resources throughout your time at RUSM.

Financial Support

Accessible medical care begins with accessible medical education. Students with the appropriate qualifications can apply for, and potentially receive, significant funding opportunities to help relieve some of the pressure of medical school costs.

Additional Resources

RUSM provides written and electronic resources via their student handbook and online library database. These resources are updated regularly to ensure the most up-to-date information is available to students.

Medical Student Success at RUSM

Alumni Representation

RUSM is committed to educating a diverse group of skilled physicians to serve as leaders in the healthcare system. Throughout the years, over 15,000 physicians have graduated from Ross University School of Medicine from all over the world.

USMLE Pass Rates

The USMLE challenges medical students to appropriately apply knowledge, concepts, and medical principles to skills required of them as a healthcare provider. During medical school, you will take the USMLE Step 1 and USMLE Step 2. The scores on both examinations are extremely important to the residency programs you will apply to at the end of your third year or beginning of your fourth year of medical school.

Because of the hands-on instruction and personalized instruction offered at RUSM, the USMLE Step 1 pass rate is 90.9%*. The USMLE Step 2 CK pass rate is 94.5%**.

First-Time Residency Attainment

Upon completing medical school, you will want to match with a residency program of your choice and medical specialty. 92% of students and graduates at Ross University School of Medicine attained first-time residencies in 2020-2021. Residents from the medical school program have matched in specialties including emergency medicine, surgery, radiology, psychiatry, gynecology, obstetrics, urology, neurology, and more. This residency attainment rate shows RUSM’s dedication to its students in securing the future of their dreams.

Now that you have identified where to find helpful resources and student support at RUSM, you will be better prepared to begin your medical school journey.

Ross University School of Medicine is accredited by the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP, www.caam-hp.org).

CAAM-HP is the legally constituted body established in 2003 under the aegis of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), empowered to determine and prescribe standards and to accredit programs of medical, dental, veterinary and other health professions education on behalf of the contracting parties in CARICOM.

Accreditation by CAAM-HP is a rigorous, peer review process which examines all aspects of a medical program. The CAAM-HP board, an independent and autonomous body of professionals, only certifies medical schools which are operating at the highest levels of industry standards.

Through this accreditation, the CAAM-HP provides assurance to medical students, graduates, the medical profession, healthcare institutions, and the public that programs leading to qualifications in medicine meet appropriate national and international standards for educational quality, and that the graduates have a sufficiently complete and valid educational experience.
