For Dr. Hugo Romeu, medicine runs in the family, his mother was a practicing physician well into her 90s. However, it wasn’t until his father fell ill with cancer that he decided to follow his mother’s footsteps and pursue a career in medicine. To broaden his medical educational perspective, Dr. Romeu decided to be one of the first few students to travel to Dominica and continue his studies at the University of Dominica School of Medicine.

Dr. Romeu and his classmates had lectures and studied at the Castaways Motel, later renamed the Castaways Hotel, the original location of the University. Upon his gradutation in 1980, Dr. Romeu completed his training at Roswell Park Memorial Hospital, Children’s Memorial and Erie County Medical Center and was named chief resident at SUNY. He continued his post graduate training at Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office in Chicago, IL becoming a triple board certified physician, specializing in Pathology.

In his nearly 40-year career in medicine, Dr. Romeu has served as a Pathologist/Medical Examiner at hospitals in Chicago, IL, south Florida, and across Europe. Additionally, he has led more than 300 trials/research initiatives and has had his medical studies published. For the past 12 years, he has been the Owner, CEO and Clinician of Romeu Clinical Enterprises Clinical Medicine, an independent pathology lab venture with a specialized Phase 1 Research Unit for medical research trials. Dr. Romeu also owns and operates Pharm RCE, a Wholesale Pharmaceutical Company with a Latin American distribution and is currently based out of Miami, Florida.
