This new designation allows RUSM to provide several AHA training courses, including basic life support, first aid and advance cardiovascular life support. Students and junior faculty at the satellite campus in St. Kitts will be the first to receive training during the next two months and then the university will look for opportunities to train the health sector.

A RUSM Heart Walk 2018 will be hosted in St. Kitts later this month. The walk will aim to bring greater visibility to conditions like heart disease and stroke and encourage the local community to adopt behaviors that will prevent such illnesses.

Basic action that anyone can take to help prevent heart disease includes:

·         Maintaining a healthy diet

·         Exercising regularly

·         Learning the warning signs of a heart attack or stroke
