Your Application Checklist

  • Completed Ross Med application.
  • Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores. The MCAT is generally a requirement for admission to all medical schools.
  • GPA scores. We evaluate your application using several factors, not just your GPA. There is no GPA minimum.
  • Official transcript(s) of a bachelors degree or higher from each college and/or professional school attended.
  • A personal statement of 750 words or less. You may use your AMCAS, AACOMAS, TMDSAS, or OMSAS personal statement.
  • At least two official letters of recommendation, which are confidential and become the property of Ross Med.
    • One should be an academic letter from a pre-medical professor acquainted with your academic ability OR a recommendation from a college pre-health advisory committee.
    • The second should be from a physician acquainted with your healthcare work experience, if applicable. The second letter may also be a character reference from an employer or volunteer organization.
    • All letters must be on appropriate letterhead with the reference writer's contact information included.
  • Non U.S./Canadian Foreign Transcript evaluation (if applicable).

Admission to Ross Med includes submitting all college level or higher coursework and we will determine your cumulative GPA and GPA in the required pre-medical coursework. We evaluate your application using several factors, not just your GPA. You can contact our Admissions team to find out if you qualify for the Ross Med MD program.

MCAT Requirements

MCAT Requirements for Medical School

To meet medical school admission requirements, Ross Med requires that all U.S. applicants* take the Medical College Admissions Test® (MCAT®). Canadian and international applicants are not required to submit MCAT scores, but are strongly encouraged to do so.

At the same time, Ross Med does not have a minimum required MCAT score for our applicants. Instead, your application will be considered holistically—meaning your MCAT score will be weighed alongside other factors.

You may apply to Ross Med before sitting for the MCAT but will need to submit your MCAT scores prior to your admission interview.

*Ross Med requires MCAT scores submitted by all U.S. Citizens, nationals, or eligible permanent resident applicants prior to the interview.

Prerequisite Coursework and Previous Education

Medical School Course Requirements

Upon admission to Ross Med, you must have a bachelor’s degree or higher and have completed the below courses within the last ten years.

  • Inorganic or General Chemistry: Two semesters (eight semester hours) with laboratories
  • Organic Chemistry: Two semesters (eight semester hours) with laboratories
  • General Biology or Zoology: Two semesters (eight semester hours) with laboratories
  • Physics: One semester (four semester hours) with laboratory
  • Mathematics: One semester of college-level mathematics (three semester hours), preferably calculus or statistics
  • English: Two semesters (six semester hours). Canadian students may satisfy the English requirements in 3 possible ways: (1) Two semesters of University humanities where essays composed at least 40% of the overall mark, (2) International Baccalaureate English and (3) Advanced Placement English.

*Substitutions and/or exceptions for med school prerequisites are made on a case by case basis at the discretion of the Admissions Dean and Faculty Admissions Committee.

How important is a letter of recommendation for medical school?

Because Ross Med’s admissions committee weighs multiple factors in determining your candidacy for medical school, the letters of recommendation you submit can offer important insight into your work ethic, interpersonal skills, community involvement, and other attributes that go beyond academics.

Do I need to have all my prerequisite coursework completed before applying to medical school?

No. All prerequisite coursework must be completed prior to the start of your first semester of medical school, but you may apply to Ross Med’s program if some of the course requirements are still in progress. If conditionally admitted, completion of the in-progress course is still required unless specifically waived by the Admissions Committee.

Are extracurriculars required to be accepted into medical school?

Extracurricular activities are not a medical school admissions requirement. Nonetheless, to be a strong applicant for medical school, your application should demonstrate that you are a well-rounded individual beyond academics. Extracurricular activities are highly recommended.

Do medical school transfer students have different requirements?

Ross Med offers several pathways for applicants to transfer into our MD degree program. The medical school requirements for transfer students are different than students who are enrolling in medical school for the first time. We want you to stay on track to meet your personal and professional goals, so we aim to provide fast turnaround on submitted applications.

After you submit your online application:

  • You will receive an email notification confirming receipt
  • A Ross Med admissions advisor will contact you if
    • the Office of Admissions reviews your file and decides to invite you for an interview
    • your application is incomplete
    • your qualifications do not meet our admissions requirements

The Personal Interview

We strongly believe in the value of learning more about our applicants through a personal interview.

If your credentials are judged to be indicative of the potential for successful completion of the Ross Med curriculum, an admissions advisor will invite you for an interview.

The interview is conducted within two to four weeks after we receive your initial application materials.

Your personal interview helps the admissions committee assess your overall personal and academic background, maturity, adaptability, character, aptitude, and most importantly, your motivation to become a doctor.

Being granted an interview is not a guarantee of acceptance, though it does play a significant part in the decision by the admissions committee.

For International Applicants

If you completed your undergraduate studies in countries that have an educational system different from that of the United States or Canada, please note that a completed pre-medical curriculum comparable to that completed by U.S. and Canadian students is a prerequisite for admission to our program.

Application

Three Start Dates Each Calendar Year

Typically, you will be able to apply for one of three upcoming semesters via the online application. We continue to accept application for each semester until all seats are filled.

We encourage you to submit your application as early as possible before your desired start. This provides you with ample time to work with our admissions team through the application process.

In the event that all seats are filled before you receive a decision, your application will automatically be considered for the next available semester.
