Dr. Miscilda Vital was born and raised on the island of Dominica. She is a proud graduate of RUSM’s class of 2006. She previously attended Midwestern State University (MWSU) in Wichita Falls, TX from where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BSc in Biology (1999). Prior to and after MSU she spent a sum total of about two years teaching high school Math and Science (1 year), and teaching Science at the Dominica State College (DSC) A-level program, Mathematics at the Dominica Teacher’s Training College and Pathophysiology at the Nursing School. Those experiences cultivated an enjoyment and love for teaching adult learners. It was during her time at medical school that the thought of a career in medical education developed.
Dr. Vital returned to RUSM as a sessional/ part-time faculty in 2007, but eventually responded to the call of medical education when she enrolled in 2010 in the 1-year Master Educator Training Program (METP) offered at RUSM for individuals with a strong interest in teaching. In 2011, Dr. Vital became a full-time faculty member at RUSM serving in the Department of Clinical Medicine. In addition to her teaching roles, she is a student mentor and has also served/serves on faculty committees such as Admissions and Clinical Sciences Evaluation Subcommittee.
