Biography
Dr. Charla Corbin is an Assistant Professor at Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM), where she plays a pivotal role in medical education as the Clinical Skills Semester 3 Co-coordinator and previously the Course Director for Semesters 03 and 04 as well as the Co-Module Director for Hematology. With extensive experience in clinical skills training and simulation, Dr. Corbin is deeply committed to fostering the integration of medical knowledge with hands-on patient care.
Her academic journey includes an MBBS from the University of the West Indies, a Postgraduate Diploma in Family Medicine, and a Doctor of Medicine (DM) in Family Medicine. She is currently pursuing a master’s in psychology. Her expertise spans clinical reasoning, simulation, patient interviewing techniques, and emergency medicine, reflected in her role as an American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor.
Dr. Corbin has held multiple leadership positions, contributing to curriculum planning, faculty mentorship, and student success. She has developed clinical cases, proctored exams, and led clinical reasoning sessions that enhanced students' diagnostic skills. Her dedication to evidence-based medicine is evident through her guidance on clinical oral reports and the use of platforms such as UpToDate.
Beyond academia, Dr. Corbin serves as a registered Family Physician, certified nutritionist, a prior Medical Consultant for Better Health Magazine, and previously a part-time lecturer in Clinical Medicine at Queens University, College of Medicine (QUCOM). She has been actively involved in community health initiatives, such as mobile vaccination programs and nutrition coaching in antenatal classes. In addition, she has served on multiple community councils within the island such as the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP) and the Barbados Medical Council (BMC).
Her research interests include medical education as well as cognitive impairment prevalence in the Caribbean, and she is a member of various professional organizations, including the American Association of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the Society of Simulation Healthcare (SSH).
Dr. Corbin remains dedicated to shaping the next generation of medical professionals through high-quality education, mentorship, and patient-centered care.
