Niels Larsen, was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Life Sciences from Aarhus University, Denmark in 1994. That was followed by two periods of postdoctoral fellowships in the USA, in the Department of Animal Sciences, University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin, and at Department of Animal Science, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. The research interests during those years was to correlate the genetic maps of humans and farm animals.
The field of interest switched more fully to human genetics with a four year period as Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics at Copenhagen University, Denmark. Finally, in 2002, he moved to Ross University School of Medicine, where he teaches medical genetics. Before stopping research when moving to RUSM, Dr. Larsen published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals.
