Rachel Scott, MA

Instructor, Academy for Teaching and Learning

Before joining Ross University School of Medicine in 2015, Scott spent more than 20 years teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), providing ESOL teacher training, and facilitating Educational Technology skills training internationally.

Scott’s academic career began in Hong Kong in 1993, where she taught English language skills to children in public schools. In 2004, she completed the Cambridge Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA), which allowed her teaching career to develop into roles as an ESOL teacher trainer and English language course designer. Following a 12-month secondment with the British Council to deliver Information Communication Technology training in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Brussels, she became the Hong Kong British Council’s Senior Teacher for English for Academic Purposes. In this role, Scott was able to initiate closer ties between the British Council and the Ministry of Education in Hong Kong. Concurrently, she became an examiner for Cambridge ESOL exams and an assessment writer for the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority.

In 2008, Scott moved to the United Arab Emirates to work for the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Research, teaching English language, study strategies and exam skills to students preparing for entry into bachelor level courses. Scott completed her Master’s degree in Digital Technologies and Communication in Education from the University of Manchester in 2012. She also worked with the UAE Ministry of Education to deliver professional development training to local schoolteachers and develop English language assessment materials. Prior to joining the Center for Teaching and Learning in Dominica, Scott was the Academic Coordinator for the Foundations Program at Sharjah Men’s College, UAE, initiating sustained and systematic advisory procedures for students in need of academic support.
