What is MedOrigin?
MedOrigin is a 15-week in-person course that strategically integrates core medical concepts with proven study techniques, allowing you to master foundational knowledge and develop essential academic skills in a single, intensive program.
Walk into your first day of semester 1 of the MD program with confidence. Upon successful completion of MedOrigin, you'll enter Semester 1 with the foundational knowledge and skills to hit the ground running.

Enrolling in MedOrigin
Prospective students can’t directly apply to MedOrigin. Students should apply to Ross Med. Upon review of your file, the Admissions Committee may grant you conditional acceptance to the university, contingent upon the successful completion of MERP or MedOrigin*, before continuing onto the first-semester Ross Med courses.

The cost of tuition and fees at RUSM can be found on the school website. This course is 10- credits and students are considered full-time students. A minimum deposit of $1,000 must be paid before the start of MedOrigin.

New MedOrigin Scholarships
Ross Med believes in making medical education accessible. Scholarships and financial aid are available for those who apply and qualify.
Students who successfully advance to semester 1 in RUSMs MD program will be eligible for the MERP passer scholarship. For eligibility requirements, please visit Ross Med’s scholarship page. Students may also reach out to their admissions advisor for more information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, MedOrigin is a credit bearing course and students attending may be eligible for federal student aid for those who apply and qualify. Please reach out to a student finance advisor for more information.
No. Canadian Provincial loans may not be used to cover MedOrigin tuition. Canadian students may apply for private loans through Canadian private lenders or a line of credit through a Canadian Bank.
After successfully completing the MedOrigin, Canadian students matriculating to medical school at RUSM may have options federal and/or provincial funding in addition to a private loan or line of credit. More information can be found in the Canadian Financial Planning Guide.
MedOrigin is graded as pass/fail. Students are evaluated based on attendance, engagement, quizzes, and assessments. MedOrigin grades will not be included in a student’s GPA, however, it will be included in an SAP calculation.
Bridge students receiving a failing grade (dismissal) or who withdraw prior to completing the MedOrigin will not advance to Semester 1. Student Care Advisors will work with students on their plan to depart Barbados.
There is no remote option for the MedOrigin, it is delivered via in-person instruction on Ross Med’s Barbados campus.
Campus Housing in the Villages of Coverley is available for students attending MedOrigin first-come first served basis. More information about RUSM housing can be found here, including rates and options for family housing. Student’s New Student Liaison (NSL) will provide further information how to apply for on-campus housing.
Yes, all MedOrigin students must apply for a Barbados Student Visa. Some international students (non-US or non-Canadian citizens) may be required to obtain a Barbados entry visa. International students who are required to obtain a Barbados entry visa will be contacted in advance by RUSM.
New students will be contacted by their New Student Liaison (NSL) to discuss this opportunity. Students interested in enrolling in MedOrigin will need to email their acceptance to their NSL who will work with the student through the rest of their arrival checklist.
RUSM’s tuition refund policy in the event of withdrawal is based on the period attended. Details on RUSM tuition refund policy for students who have withdrawn can be found in the RUSM Student Handbook and Course Catalog under “Withdrawal Tuition Refund Schedule”.
Tuition, fees and any additional cost for attending MedOrigin are not refundable in the event of a student failing.
