Dr. Natalie Mayers-Aymes, BPharm (Hons), PharmD

Biography
Dr. Mayers-Aymes earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree with upper second-class honors from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Following this, Dr. Mayers-Aymes worked at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados, where she worked extensively with patients in the artificial kidney unit and attended clinical rounds with the nephrology team. While at the hospital, she was also responsible for mentoring pharmacy students and conducting educational sessions for patients and other health care professionals.
Prior to joining RUSM, Dr. Mayers-Aymes worked as the program coordinator for the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy program at the Barbados Community College. There, she spearheaded a rigorous curriculum review that led to a major enhancement — upgrading the three-year Associate Degree in Pharmacy program to a four-year Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy program. Additionally, she implemented a two-year upgrade to the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree for practicing pharmacists. In additional to her administrative duties, she taught many courses across the curriculum to students namely, Applied Therapeutics, Pharmaceutical Calculations, Pharmacokinetics and Pharmaceutics. Dr. Mayers-Aymes has also provided instruction to medical students at the University of the West Indies in the areas of Pharmacology and Therapeutics. Dr. Mayers-Aymes is also a community volunteer and has educated many on managing renal disease, hypertension, asthma, diabetes and dyslipidemia.
Dr. Mayers-Aymes joined Ross University School of Medicine in 2020 and is an Assistant Professor. She plays a pivotal role in the delivery of pharmacology lectures across the curriculum. Dr. Mayers-Aymes is also the co-director of the Formative Assessment Program and thus is responsible for the overall structure and proper functioning of this program in Semesters 1 through Semester 5. She works closely with faculty to develop structured formative activities for students to continuously assess their understanding of content delivered during the modules. As a faculty mentor and an advisor to many student-led clubs, Dr. Mayers-Aymes is heavily committed to medical education and thus has played a pivotal role at RUSM in curriculum development and other academic initiatives.
