Biography
Dr. Calton is a seasoned internist and healthcare professional with over 30 years of experience in clinical medicine, medical education, healthcare management, and quality improvement. Currently pursuing a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Adult and Higher Education, he holds an MBBS, MD (Internal Medicine), Master of Health Management, MBA in Operations, and MPhil in Hospitals and Health Systems Management. Dr. Calton is Board certified as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and holds Certified Healthcare Executive status with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL).
Dr. Calton is passionate about Team-Based Learning (TBL) and Experiential Learning, focusing on active student engagement and real-world application of medical knowledge. He is a certified TBL Practitioner and holds a fellowship in TBL. As Vice Chair of DCF and Director of Medical Simulation, he led RUSMSI through reaccreditation and now spearheads efforts in Assessment, Research, and Human Simulation Standards for the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH).
Recognized for his excellence in teaching and leadership, Dr. Calton has received several prestigious awards, including the TEACH Award (2023), ACHE Service Award (2019), and Regent’s Award for Outstanding Leadership (2018). He is also a published researcher and peer reviewer for journals like Medical Educator and the Journal of Healthcare Quality, contributing to advancements in healthcare education and management.
With expertise in quality management, accreditation, and human capital development, Dr. Calton holds certifications such as Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB), and Lean Bronze Certification (CLB). As lead auditor for the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH, India), his leadership has driven significant improvements in healthcare systems, optimizing processes and enhancing patient care outcomes.
